How to Travel the World on $50 a Day: Travel Book Review

I’ve been a big fan of Matt Kepnes travel site for a long time. I find many of his travel stories inspiring and his advice on travel to be well thought out.

Matt continues his tradition inspiring travel with his “new” book “How to Travel the World on $50 a Day.” Though this is the same book that’s been on his website for a while now, it’s been edited, updated, and spruced up for publication.

Being an avid reader of Matt’s and other travel blogs as well as having traveled for a while myself, I wasn’t expecting the book to provide me anything I didn’t already know. Given the low cost however, I thought I’d give it a shot anyway.

In general the book is a collection of travel advice that you could find for free anywhere on the internet. How to stay places for free, how to get cheap tickets, and traps to avoid. All the information you want is out there, and it’s all free, but it takes a lot of time to find it.

What this book does differently and why it’s worth the few dollars it costs is that it lays out in a concise yet detailed manner all the tips and tricks that you can use to save money before and during a world trip. You can read it in a few afternoons or you could spend weeks searching the internet to get up to speed.

If you haven’t traveled before this book will help to give you the confidence to plan a trip, quit your job and take off to see the world.

I was also pleasantly surprised that if you have traveled before there is still information to be had in Matt’s book that will help to save you money. Though his advice on banking, travel hacking, and most other financials are USA centric it’s still quite useful. I also found his advice on regions I’ve not been to yet quite helpful and something I’ll have to keep in mind for the future.

In short I feel this book will save you far more than the $15 (or less) it costs and highly recommend it to any traveler or future traveler.
